Il Falchetto
The vineyards between Langhe and Monferrato
The land of Il Falchetto
Santo Stefano Belbo is located on the orographic right of the Tanaro River, between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, between the Langhe and Monferrato: two of the most important wine areas in Piedmont, which became part of UNESCO World Heritage in 2014.
Langhe hills are formed by long ridges emerged from an ancient marine gulf aligned in a north-south direction separated from each other by streams of the Tanaro basin. Those of Monferrato are gentle hills, they have soft slopes in which fresh valley bottoms alternate with ridges radiated by the sun.
The sandy soils of the area of the Moscato d’Asti, which boasts the DOCG “Canelli”, have sandstone and compact marl, they are shallow and rich in silt and limestone. Silty and clayey marls alternate with sandy soils, rich and deep in the area of Agliano Terme, important village in the subzone of “Nizza” DOCG.
