Quinta Vale D. Maria
Douro
In the Douro Valley, Portugal's most famous strong wine - the port wine is produced together with a number of red wines produced from the same red grapes as for the port wine production.
Portugal is perhaps small compared to its neighbor Spain but shows a surprisingly wide range in terms of wines and wine styles. They range from pale rosé, aromatic whites over diverse Madeira to the darkest port wines.
Portugal has many grape varieties that not many people know and most wines are produced from domestic grapes. In the port wine valley Douro, red and white are now made in the usual modern style. Many of Portugal's regions and wines are receiving increasing international attention.
