Codorníu
The oldest wine and cava producer in Spain with more than 450 years of history
Founded in 1551, a pioneer in Spanish winemaking
Codorníu, established by the Raventós family in Catalonia, is a true innovator in sparkling wine. In 1872, Codorníu produced the first bottle of cava using the traditional method, inspired by French Champagne techniques— a historic milestone that laid the foundation for the entire cava category. Today, Codorníu stands as a symbol of quality, craftsmanship, and innovation, and is one of Spain’s most exported wine brands.
With just over 1 million hectares, Spain has the world's largest wine-growing area, but only ends up in third place in production volume. This is because many wine regions are sparsely planted and lack of rain makes yields low. A variety of grape varieties are grown, but only about twenty percent account for close to 80 percent of the vineyard area.
